Raal 1995 Magna
The design of the new Raal models offers an alternative to the steampunk elements of the SR1 and the DIY aesthetic of the CA-1a. And despite the classic coupling to the ear by means of ear pads, the sound characteristics remain extremely open, with even better bass.
The Magna weighs 530 g and is made of a 10 cm diameter fiberglass-aluminum composite with a hard-waxed American walnut veneer and an anodized finish. The grille on the back of the driver is made of etched 3-phase stainless steel, the bracket is made of titanium aluminum nitride and brushed stainless steel. The skin side of the headband is padded with non-slip suede and the head width adjustment has a five-position grid.
The memory foam ear pads are covered with lamb suede on the inside and perforated leather on the outside. The round ear pad opening should also provide comfort for large ears. Conventional 3.5 mm TRRS sockets are used as connections. The twin ribbons on the Magna are made of corrugated aluminum with a viscous damping skin made of “Silent Metal”, the combined surface area is 16.8 cm². The excursion potential is ±4 mm, the maximum sound pressure level is 115 dB and the impedance is 0.038Ω (0.27Ω with the 1.8 m long S2 headphone cable with XLR4 socket).
Which version do I need?
The Magna requires a special amplifier that can handle the almost non-existent resistance of the headphones. A special interface in the form of a headphone stand has been developed for the new Immanis and Magna, which, together with a special cable (SATIS Copper or STAR-8 MKII Silver), enables connection to a “normal” headphone amplifier. The Immanis can of course also be connected to an existing TI-1a/b/c, HSA or VM (Direct Drive Amplifier) interface. Choose the right package for you – we will be happy to advise you personally on this topic.
