A shield can is applied to prevent various noise and electromagnetic interference from affecting the audio block. The SP3000M takes it a step further to achieve excellent audio performance and perfect shielding by applying highly conductive, high-purity silver on the existing shield can, and physically separating digital and analog signals.

In order to create a truly innovative DAP, not just a great DAP, A&K tried to overcome the limitations of sound by envisioning an independent dual audio circuit that has never been attempted by anyone featuring a HEXA structure with unbalanced and balanced outputs. Almost all other DAPs, including Astell&Kern, use an internal DAC for both unbalanced and balanced outputs. Since the signal from the DAC is divided into unbalanced and balanced then delivered to the AMP, an Audio Switch is essential. However, when using a switch, there is a limit to the range that can receive the signal sent by the DAC, so most DAPs reduce the signal size first and then when the signal is transmitted back to the amplifier, it is necessary to restore the original signal size. This causes a limitation in improving the audio performance. To overcome the limitations, the engineers designed a HEXA structure using two AK4191EQs and four AK4499EXs, creating an innovative unbalanced and balanced independent dual audio circuit design. As a result, the SP3000M achieves a SNR of 130dB, the best of any DAP available. You can feel the clean, pure delicacy of sound with the SP3000M that you cannot not experience in any other DAP.

Most digital players process digital and analog signals together inside the DAC. In order to create a truly innovative DAP, not just a great DAP, AK has tried to overcome the limitations of sound by envisioning an independent dual audio circuit that has never been attempted by anyone with a HEXA – Audio Circuitry structure with unbalanced and balanced outputs.

Almost all other DAPs, including Astell&Kern’s, use an internal DAC for both unbalanced and balanced outputs. Since the signal from the DAC is divided into unbalanced and balanced and then delivered to the AMP, an Audio Switch is essential. However, when using a switch, there is a limit to the range that can receive the signal sent by the DAC, so most DAPs reduce the signal size first, and then when the signal is transmitted back to the amplifier, it is necessary to restore the original signal size. This causes a limitation in improving the audio performance.

To overcome the limitations, AK engineers designed a HEXA – Audio Circuitry structure using two AK4191EQs and four AK4499EXs, creating an innovative unbalanced and balanced independent dual audio circuit design. As a result, the SP3000 achieves an SNR of 130dB, the best of any DAP available. You can feel the clean, pure delicacy of sound with the SP3000 that you cannot experience in any other DAP.

Noise-free balanced 4.4mm output port

The Astell & Kern Kann Max features a completely new 4.4mm balanced output port, implemented in a unique way.

Unlike others of its kind, the Player can physically separate the 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs using micro relays. When the 2.5mm and 4.4mm structures are connected only to the ordinary mute circuit, they do not prevent the noise interference that can occur because not every signal is properly blocked.

Kann Max convinces with a noise-free output because we have included an independent structure that completely blocks interference from outputs that are not used and should be turned off.

Gold PVD coating method

A gold PVD coating on the headphone jack minimizes any contact noise at the output. This sets the Kann Max apart from other products that only use typical rings. The Astell & Kern – SA700 pays homage to the AK120, one of the company’s first high-resolution digital audio players (DAPs). While the SA700 pays homage to the past. It’s also a forward-thinking statement piece with meticulous attention to industrial design and a sound so good and seductive that it’s arguably my favorite high-resolution DAP to date.

The main thing a potential buyer looks for in a Hi-Fi player is, of course, sound quality. And the Astell&Kern SA700 handles this issue admirably: it sounds great, is versatile in terms of genres, and has excellent recording quality. 

The benefits of the player do not stop there: almost all major music formats are supported, and there is a choice of the familiar 3.5mm jack paired with a 2.5mm balanced jack. All of this is housed in a sleek stainless steel case.

Astell & Kern – SA700 DESIGN

The colorful, retro volume dial on the SA700 was inspired by the design of A&K’s old classic, the AP120. It also has that boxy feel to it. However, the technology used in the SA700 is completely novel. 

A&K used AKM’s AK4492ECB DAC chips for its dual DAC. It is the first player to use VELVET SOUNDTM technology in these components.

The Astell & Kern SA700 feels very different in your hand if you’re used to the shape of your phone. It’s smaller, thicker, sharper, and more substantial. 

You’d be forgiven for thinking it’s just a solid block of stainless steel, but it has a glass-covered touchscreen on the front and plenty of high-resolution audio technology on the inside.

The large volume knob on the right creates the asymmetric shape, which is flanked by swooping, textured guards that blend into the angular body. It’s a great contrast to the otherwise blocky design, and it gives the SA700 personality.
